Cyprus : Promoting lasting peace between the two communities on the island , through the power of Football in co-operation with Peace & Sport !

The friendly football game between Nea Salamina and Maguca Turku F.C. took place in the mixed village of Pyla on Tuesday afternoon , March 19th 2019. 

It was the second football game between teams from Cyprus’ largest ethnic communities since 1955.

The two teams, originally based in Famagusta, competed with their normal squads in the first half, while in the second they mixed their squads.

The aim of this initiative , was to promote lasting Peace on the island of Cyprus by strengthening the ties between the two communities that inhabit the island. 

We believe that through not only sport but also through any other form of creative bi-communal work , the actual ties between the people are reinforced in way that gradually eradicates hostility and does not leave room for conflict to ever arise again. 

The game was organised by Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and the organisation Peace and Sport.

Around 1,000 people attended the game.

President Anastasiades, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, UNFICYP head Elizabeth Spehar and U.K. High Commissioner Stephen Lillie attended the event.

Former Chelsea legend and deputy vice president of Peace and Sport, Didier Drogba was also at the game.


As Nelson Mandela had said : '' Sport has the power to change the world.  It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope, where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination. ''


Sir Stelios and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation hold the 6th annual cocktail party in aid of WWF

 The annual fundraising event organized by Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, in partnership with WWF International and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, was  held on July 23 , 2018 in support of a mutual objective: the preservation of the Mediterranean Monk Seal. At this summer event, the guests themselves were invited to become the guardians of this endangered species. Thanks to their support and the contribution of the Stelios Foundation, 120 000 euros have been raised for this conservation project.

Emblematic species of the Mediterranean, the monk seal has become one of the most threatened mammals in the world.

Sir Stelios attended today the International Philanthropy Summit in Monaco which took place at the Auditorium Rainier III. Sir Stelios participated in the panel discussion "How Celebrities & Luxury Brands Work to Save Natural Resources and Improve the Livelihoods and Education of the Most Vulnerable and Unprotected People? ".
At the end he was awarded for his contribution to philanthropy.

cheque_wwf_fpa2_11july17The total sum of €120,000, including the matching from the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation have been donated to the WWF and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, to support their joint project aiming to double the number of wild tigers by year 2022, the next Chinese year of the tiger!

€192,000, including Sir Stelios doubling, were raised at yesterday's 4th annual fundraiser to support the work of WWF and Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco to safeguard the "Pelagos Sanctuary" and the Mediterranean.

 A total of £132,000 (172,000€) for future scholarships at The London School of Economics and Political Science - LSE and Cass Business School were raised this weekend, during the Stelios Scholars' Grand Reunion in Monaco! Stelios Philanthropic Foundation has doubled the Scholars' donations to reach this amount.

10 years, 200 scholars, a £3 million donation!

The time has come to bring everyone together to celebrate our first 10 years! We should do something reminiscing, congratulating, soul searching, planning the future while having a bit of fun. This is a great opportunity for our Scholars to start thinking about giving back. Sir Stelios will be hosting this event in Monaco, where he lives, from the 30th of April until the 1st of May 2016!
